I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. Galatians 1:6–7 (ESV)
I spent a few hours over the last couple of days attempting - and failing - to write a pithy little recap of Sunday's message from Paul's letter to the Galatians. Then, I came across this from J.D. Greear, pastor of The Summit Church, and former President of the Southern Baptist Convention,
"Whenever the church gets in bed with politics, the church gets pregnant. And our offspring does not look like our father in Heaven."
This, in essence, is the point I was attempting to make, though less succinctly, this past Sunday. To really drive the point home, I encourage you to consider the following paraphrase of that same statement,
"Whenever I marry His Gospel to my _______________, (you fill in the blank - no, really, fill in the blank with any non-gospel related thought, idea, concept or philosophy you hold dear) the gospel gets pregnant. And the offspring does not look like the Gospel of my Father in Heaven.
Think about it.
